PINK SATURDAY & HAPPY NEW YEAR Jan. 1, 2011

Hello and Happy New Year to you and your family! I wish you peace, health, and happiness in the New Year!

Today Beverly asked us to post about our plans for the New Year. My husband and I plan a quiet New Year's Eve. I made some snacks and my Grandsons stopped in, we had a nice visit with them.
New Year's Day I'm making a ham with all the trimmings, we plan to spend the day relaxing.

We've had alot of snow here in WV and living in the country our roads were not plowed for quit some time. I finally ventured out on Wed. this week. I stopped in the Hallmark Store and got the cutest things with some of my Christmas money, all at 50% off.

I got this cute littel Bearington Bear. I love her wool dress with velvet trim.

Beautiful painting on canves, the snow in the trees and ground has glitter but does not show up in this picture. It's a beautiful scene.

A cute little wool and felt pillow. Perfect for my country family room.

A cute little containter made from wool and embroidery. Not sure what I will fill it with, maybe some nice holly or evergreens. I'll have to keep my eye out for something pretty.

I made the cute little snowman pillow below for a gift exchange. The little snowman was man from dryer sheets. I was so pleased with how cute it came out.

Thank you so much for stopping by, I wish you a Happy New Year!

PINK SATURDAY, DEC. 25, 2010

I hope your Christmas is filled with peace, joy and happiness!

Since Pink Saturday is on Christmas Beverly wanted us to post about our plans for the day.

My husband and I are planning a quiet day at home. I'm roasting a turkey breast and all the trimmings to go with it.

My son Bob is in Afghanistan and he called already, he's about 10 1/2 hours ahead of us so it was Christmas for him already. I am so happy to say that his unit is packing up already, he will start his journey home in the first part of Jan. and should be home here buy the first part of Feb. I'm not letting my guard down but I am just so darn excited to know that he will soon be out of that danger. I would feel so helpless if he were hurt or sick over there and I could not get over there to him. Anyway this sad year of his being deployed is almost over. I appreciate all your prayers and concern for him!

Above and below is a pic of my Mother's Goebel angels, a few weeks back I shared with you a pic of the Nativity pieces that she had collected by Goebel. Below her angels are watching over my grandsons football pictures. LOL

My cozy kitchen windows!

Some jadeite on my old pine shelf.

Thank you so much for stopping by, Merry Christmas to all!

PINK SATURDAY DEC. 18, 2010

Hello and welcome to Pink Saturday hosted by Beverly of How Sweet the Sound! Thank you so much Beverly for hosting this fun event.

Today Beverly asked us to blog about our favorite Christmas music. The album "Holiday Sing Along with Mitch Miller" has been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember. My father first bought this album when I was eight years old. He had just retired from the Air Force and we had just moved into our first home. A sweet little Cape Cod. Oh how I loved that house. It was gray with pink shutters. He loved this music and would sing right along with Mitch!!! LOL What fun memories these songs bring to me. It's now available in a CD. My daughter Jen even bought it, she remembers how much her Grandfather loved it. It can put you in the holiday mood with it's first song.

Next I have to share with you my aqua tree in my bedroom.

A few close ups.

A pretty little aqua angel on top.

Now on to my country kitchen tree decorated in vintage crochet potholders.

A cute little stove from Hallmark.

Faux hot chocolate that I made a few years ago.

Another cute Fridge ornament from Hallmark.

It even lights up, love the snowman in the freezer.

Thank you so much for stopping by, it was so nice to visit with you. I hope you have a wonderful week. A great two weeks at our home, my grandson is home for a two week leave from the Navy.
I wish you peace! Shirl

A few pictures of Christmas around this old house!

This nativity set was my Mom's amd I treasure it. She started collecting this set made by Gobel then she passed away before she purchased the whole set and I've never added to it. I just use the pieces she had.

PINK SATURDAY & A VERY PINK CHRISTMAS Dec 4, 2010

Hello and welcome to Pink Saturday hosted by Beverly of How Sweet the Sound. Thank you Beverly for hosting this fun event!

Today I have my foyer all done up for Christmas in Pink. Still have that old staircase that is half finished, on hold for some major repairs on this old house.

Feel free to click on the pic to get a larger view.

Below is my old green chair from Ohio Amish Country that seems to go with just about anything I put with it.

Below is a Betsy Clark candle that I had purchased a pair of for my mother back in 1974, I could not part with them when I cleaned out her belongings. I think of her every year when I pull them out. Today is her birthday, she would be 86 if she were still alive. She passed away in 1984, still miss her so!!!!!

I love this little Christmas village below, can you believe I found this in a dollar store?

Beverly asked us to post a favorite recipe, this is an old recipe from a New England bakery. The gal that gave me the recipe said that her family had to make this many times to get the recipe down to 2 cakes instead of the batch of 10 that her Grandmother's Bakery made it in.
It's the most delicious cake, I'm sure you will love it. It's our family favorite.
Sour Cream Chocolate Chip Cake
Recipe makes 2 cakes and it freezes well so use one for now and freeze one for later.

Fabulous smelling mist for refreshing potpourrie called carmel coffee cake.

Last a cute little fall penny mat that I've not packed away yet. Still enjoying it! LOL
